Self Guided Sunrise Crater

1. Vehicle Tour to Summit:

Begin your journey in the early hours of the morning as we journey to the summit of Haleakala volcano. The cool predawn air sets the stage for an awe-inspiring experience as you ascend to an elevation of nearly 10,000 feet above sea level.

2. Sunrise at Haleakala Crater:

Arriving at the summit, you’ll witness one of nature’s most spectacular displays—the sunrise over Haleakala Crater. As the sun’s first rays illuminate the volcanic landscape, you’ll be captivated by the vibrant colors and serene beauty of this otherworldly setting. Enjoy a vehicle tour of Haleakala National Park and a stop at the informative Visitor Center.

3. Bike Ride Begins:

Your adventure continues as you begin your bike ride at an altitude of approximately 6,500 feet, just outside the national park entrance. The crisp mountain air and panoramic views provide an invigorating start to your downhill journey.

Self Guided Sunrise Fabulous 29s

4. “Fabulous 29” Switchbacks:

Prepare for the thrill of a lifetime as you descend the world-famous “Fabulous 29” switchbacks down through the historic Haleakala Ranch. The winding road offers a unique one-of-a-kind biking experience, with each turn revealing stunning vistas of the island below. It’s a ride that combines excitement and natural beauty in perfect harmony.

5. Upcountry Scenic Tour:

Per Maui County law, bike riding is not allowed through the Kula community. Just before entering the residential area of Kula, we’ll board the vehicle and transport guests through Kula. You’ll gain insights into the local culture and enjoy the tranquility of rural Maui on the drive.

6. Bike Ride Resumes:

Your biking adventure continues in the beautiful area of Olinda, riding past Haleakala Ranch, Oskie Rice Rodeo, and Kaonoulu Ranch. Make a stop in the paniolo (cowboy) town of Makawao and browse the quaint shops after enjoying a delicious breakfast (no host). Afterward, continue riding your bike down to the historic North Shore town of Haiku where our shop is located, and the bike ride concludes.

The Haleakala Sunrise Self-Guided Bike Tour offers an extraordinary way to appreciate Haleakalā’s majesty. It’s a perfect blend of adventure and natural wonder, creating an unforgettable experience for those seeking to connect with the unique beauty of Maui. SEE WHAT OUR BIKERS HAVE TO SAY

Amazing experience

A sightseeing experience that will take your breath away, followed by a great adrenaline rush for any level of biker. You can choose to go at your own pace pumping the brakes but can honestly really fly if you want to – just a shorter trip and not as much sightseeing as you’ll be white knuckling all the way down.

Sunrise at the Crater

Awesome! Staff is excellent. The explanation of geology, flora, fauna enroute to the crater was excellent. Great information in terms of safety talk. Equipment was top notch in terms of wind/rain gear, helmets (off road helmets) and good quality bikes. The ride is easy and fun and best of all, you take it at your own pace; this is not a “group ride” down the mountain. Guides provide map and directions that are easy to follow and you can stop and take photos along the way as much or little as desired as you are at your own pace. It’s all downhill except for 4-6 small rises, so it’s mostly a “braking ride”. Highly recommend.

Worth It

The comedy show of our guide Drew & our driver Eddie certainly made waking up early worth it! They gave us history & botanical info as well as island etiquette. Respect the land! Another breathtaking piece of heaven in Maui.

Amazing Bike Trip

I’m extremely glad we decided to go with Bike Maui for our unguided bike trip! The bikes we were provided with were excellent – they were in great condition, very lightweight, and had fantastic after-market brakes on them. We both felt very safe and in control on them.

I cannot say enough about the Tour Guide we had either. If you go, ask for Kimo. He made the trip go from an amazing bike trip to a full island experience. He provided a lot of history, super corny jokes (awesome), and even met some of the locals at their fruit stand.
I would definitely do this again – and would definitely use Bike Maui again.

Unparalleled Experience

We had a great time watching the sunrise and biking down Haleakala. The guide was funny and informative, and the experience was unparalleled. I’m already looking forward to going back with my family!
