Olowalu Petroglyphs Trail

Experience a great bike ride as well as some history and Lahaina Town!

Olowalu Petroglyphs Map

To bike to the Olowalu Petroglyphs, you'll need to rent a bike, then head down the Honoapi'ilani Hwy (Hwy 30) from Lahaina Town. We suggest parking closer to the south side of town because it can get difficult to find spaces further into town (plus many are pay lots.)

You can also do this ride from the south side, but it's a long ride.

When the road is covered by tall beautiful shading trees, you'll soon see the Olowalu Store on your left side. Before you get to the store, turn left onto the back road behind it. Follow it for about 100 feet then turn left at the big tree.

Keep riding until you see a sign for the Olowalu Petroglyphs and Cultural Reserve. Follow the dirt road for 1/2 a mile.

Make sure to bring a helmet, plenty of water, and something to fix a flat. Also, watch out for cars and pedestrians.

Olowalu detail mapPetroglyphs!

The soft lava rock found in the area served as excellent canvas for pre and post contact Hawaiians.

Here you'll find around 70 petroglyphs at the Pu'u Kilea on your right that are over 300 years old.

Drive further to see the Olowalu Cultural Reserve Ohupua'a. Be wary of any hand rails, as they may not be stable. Also, please me respectful and don't climb the rocks.
