There are several bike companies that offer a Maui tour biking downhill on Haleakala here on Maui. Only two allow you to descend at your own pace. All companies stage at 6500'. Those companies that convoy you down the mountain, bike only as fast as the slowest person, get on and off road when they say. No passing, a total controlled experience. With us, you are allowed to go at your own pace, stay in your own comfort zone; get on and off the road when you want.
What makes you safe on the mountain, is your own conduct. Be aware of what is going on around you, travel at a pace you are comfortable with.
The Haleakala Bike company approach is to make your Downhill Bike Tour experience more affordable and offer more freedom of choice on where to go on the Mountain. We now offer Hotel, Resort, and Cruise Ship pick up and return. You can still meet us at the bike shop in the Haiku Market Place in Haiku, upcountry Maui, Hawaii. There are pro's and con's associatted with pick up. Your return time is fixed, where as if you drive over, you will have more "freedom", and additional savings. We have a full service bicycle store at the foot of Haleakala mountain where you can leave your car. We do not feed you; there are wonderful places to eat along the way. Our courtesy van takes you up the mountain. We furnish you with a nice, newer Gary Fisher mountain bike, bicycle helmet, gloves, back pack, and rain/wind gear. You are self-guided and operate at your own pace. Some of our clients go straight down to the store, we call them "shredders". Others make a day of it, it's your choice.
